FOUR snacks I always take with me when I travel for happy BGs!

Nov 23, 2023

Discover the best travel snacks for happy blood glucose levels. Protein bars, low-carb options, and other smart choices keep you energized throughout the trip.

Traveling with diabetes doesn't mean you have to compromise on satisfying snacks. In fact, having a selection of smart, portable snacks can help you maintain happy blood sugars during your journeys. Whether you're on a road trip, flying across the country, or simply out and about, these snack options can be your trusty companions. Here are four snacks that I always have on hand for my adventures, and they might just become your favorites too.

1. Protein Bars: The Ultimate Travel Buddy

Protein bars are a go-to choice for many, and for good reason. They offer a quick energy boost, and their compact size makes them super travel-friendly.

Look for bars with a balanced macronutrient profile, like the ones I prefer with 20 grams of protein per bar. With a good dose of fiber and essential nutrients, they can double as a low snack fruit. Plus, they are predictable in their impact on blood sugars, providing you with much-needed stability.

2. Get Your Crunch Fix with Low-Carb Snacks

Craving something salty and crunchy? Most of us do it during long trips. Instead of reaching for traditional chips, consider healthier alternatives like these shrewd food Puffs.

With only two grams of carbs and a whopping 13 grams of protein, you can satisfy that craving without sending your blood sugar on a rollercoaster ride.

3. Don't Underestimate Low Blood Sugar Snacks

Low blood sugar can catch us off guard, and it's important to have a quick solution at hand. One surprising favorite of mine is candy corn.

It might not be everyone's top pick, but it's ultra-portable, and it works wonders in a blood sugar emergency. Keep a small stash in your bag, and you'll be glad you did when you need that rapid sugar boost.

4. The Protein Powder Powerhouse

Protein powder isn't just for gym enthusiasts; it's a versatile and handy snack for travelers. I prefer to pack individual bags of protein powder to ensure I get the protein my body needs.

This is especially helpful when the meals provided during travel don't quite cut it. A protein shake can be a lifesaver for your blood sugar control.

Smart snacking on the go can make all the difference in maintaining stable blood sugar levels while you're on the move. These snack choices are not just handy but also effective at sustaining your energy and blood sugar balance. Do you have your own favorite travel snacks? We'd love to hear about them!
