May 03, 2023

If you’re a chocolate lover, it’s a pretty safe bet that you are also a fan of the brownie. But if you’re trying to manage your blood sugar levels, you’ve probably been wary of indulging.

As a person living with diabetes, it can be challenging to indulge in your favorite desserts without worrying about the impact on your blood sugar levels. However, there are ways to enjoy sweet treats like the triple-decker brownie without compromising your health.

The triple-decker brownie is a three-layered dessert that consists of a brownie, cookie dough, and a cookie. Sounds kind of crazy, right? Like something you wouldn't normally see a person with diabetes eating? Well, periodically, it is fine to indulge. Now, onto the fun: how to consider dosing for it and assessing the food.

Firstly, the bottom layer of the brownie, which is the largest layer, assuming a standard serving size, which can vary from 2-4 ounces, the bottom layer of the brownie may contain around 20-25 grams of carbohydrates. This estimate is based on the assumption that the brownie layer is made using typical ingredients such as flour, sugar, and chocolate, which can contribute carbohydrates to the dessert.

The middle layer of cookie dough in the triple-decker brownie can also contribute to the total carbohydrate content of the desert. Depending on the recipe and serving size, the cookie dough layer may contain around 15-20 grams of carbohydrates.

The top layer of the brownie, including frosting, may contain around 15 grams of carbohydrates, depending on the recipe and serving size. However, it's important to note that the nutritional content of the frosting can vary depending on the recipe and ingredients used. Some types of frosting, such as cream cheese frosting, may contain less sugar and carbohydrates compared to other types of frosting.

In total, the triple-decker brownie can be estimated to have 50-60 grams of carbohydrates. You could base your dose around 55-60g of carbs assessed, assuming you don't share it with anyone.

In conclusion, as a diabetic, it is possible to enjoy desserts like this triple-decker brownie without compromising your health. With a bit of planning and monitoring, you can indulge in your favorite treats and still maintain healthy blood sugar levels. And remember, life is too short to not have food that you love!
